An excellent personal narrative of life at Johnson's Island, as well as Confederate service generally, is by Lieutenant J.R.
Boyles, who is #133 in the autograph book. The narrative is titled "Reminiscences of the Civil War" and was published
in 1890 in pamphlet form by the Bryan Printing Co. of Columbia, S.C. On page 49, Lieutenant Boyles notes that among the
South Carolinians he met at Johnson's Island was Samuel Dibble.
The March 1987 issue of "Blue & Gray Magazine" is a special issue devoted to Johnson's Island. It is fascinating
reading.
